Introduction of Cruiser Surfskate

A Cruiser Surfskate, also known as a Surf Skateboard or Surf Skate, is a specialized type of skateboard designed to mimic the feeling of surfing on land. A Cruiser Surfskate typically features a long, narrow deck with a surfboard-like shape, allowing riders to simulate the movements and maneuvers of surfing on concrete or pavement. The deck may have a slight concave or camber to provide a surfboard-like feel and enhance maneuverability.

What is a Cruiser Longboard?

Cruisers sit somewhere between a regular deck and a longboard. They have a less aggressive profile than a standard deck, and come with large soft wheels. This allows you to roll over rough surfaces with ease, and provides good grip for laying down carves.

Cruiser Longboard Craftsmanship

Wood treatment:  Skateboard decks are almost maple, Before being cut into veneers, they're soaked in water for hours to soften them enough to be sliced properly.

Veneer coating:  The manufacturer then takes each veneer and is fed into a glue machine by hand. The veneer, usually about one-twentieth of an inch, is evenly coated with a water-based glue on both sides.

Layering and molding:  The stacking of the veneers and the molding process are one of the most important processes in deck manufacturing. After being coated, 7 veneers are stacked in a specific order inside of a mold.

Drilling and shaping: After the veneers set, the deck is removed from the press and eight holes are drilled for mounting the trucks. Each deck is then hand-shaped with a band saw using a premade template.

sanded:  Aworker-called the shaper-takes the newly drilled board and, The deck is hand sanded and coated with a paint or sealant.

Design:  Once graphics are decided on, they are painted onto the deck via a custom screen-printing machine, before being packaged and shipped to the company.

Components of Cruiser Longboard

Deck

Mostly made of 7-ply Canadian (maple) wood. The front part is the Nose, and the back part is the Tail.

Trucks

Their function is to connect the wheels to the board (by means of 8 bolts and 4 nuts), and they are used to make the turns.

Bearings

Each board has 8 bearings, which means that there are 2 for each wheel. They are metal rings with 6, 7, or 8 balls inside protected by two thin discs.

Wheels

There are 4 and they go on the ends of the axles.

Made of urethane.

Griptape

To begin with, it is the element that is attached to the board and whose purpose is to give you the proper grip when you ride your board.

Riser pad

They serve to cushion and protect the wood against impacts, help to minimize vibrations, and prevent the wheels from touching the board.

Maintenance Cruiser Longboard

Regular Inspection of Your Longboard

The first step in maintaining your longboard is performing regular checks.Pay particular attention to your deck, trucks, wheels, and bearings. These are the areas that take on the most wear and tear and are crucial to your longboard's performance.

Cleaning the Longboard Deck

The deck of your longboard can gather dust and dirt from your rides, which can, over time, affect your grip tape's effectiveness. Cleaning your deck is an easy task that you can do with a soft-bristled brush or a special grip tape cleaner.

Cleaning and Lubricating the Bearings

Bearings are an essential component of your longboard. They enable the wheels to spin freely, providing a smooth and effortless ride. Over time, dirt and grime can get inside your bearings and hinder their performance. Regular cleaning and lubricating can ensure that they remain in top condition.

Checking and Tightening the Trucks

The trucks on your longboard should be tight enough to prevent wobbling but loose enough to allow easy turning. Over time, the nuts on your trucks can loosen. It's important to check the tightness of your trucks regularly and adjust as necessary.

Considerations for Choosing the Right Cruiser Board

Size and Shape:
Cruiser boards come in various sizes and shapes, each offering distinct advantages. Deck size typically varies between 7.5 to 9 inches, and the width chosen should align with your foot size for comfort and stability. Additionally, the shape of the deck, such as concave or flat, influences your control and maneuverability on the board.

Material and Construction:
The material and construction of a cruiser board play a pivotal role in determining its durability and performance. Most cruiser boards are made of either maple wood, bamboo, or a combination of both. Maple wood is known for its sturdiness and resilience, while bamboo offers a more flexible and lightweight option. Selecting a board with high-quality materials will ensure longevity and withstand daily wear and tear.

Wheels and Trucks:
The wheels and trucks of a cruiser board significantly affect your overall riding experience. Wheels commonly range between 55mm to 65mm in diameter, with larger wheels providing better stability and smoother rides, especially on rough surfaces. Furthermore, choosing the appropriate hardness of the wheels (measured in durometer) is crucial, as it determines the board's grip and maneuverability. Trucks should be selected based on your weight and preferred level of tightness, with looser trucks offering better turning capabilities.

Skill Level:
Consider your skill level when selecting a cruiser board. Beginners may benefit from wider and more stable boards, providing greater balance and control. Intermediate and advanced skateboarders might prefer narrower boards that offer increased maneuverability for executing tricks or navigating crowded areas.

Personal Style and Aesthetic Appeal:
While functionality is key, personal style and aesthetic appeal should also factor into your decision. Cruiser boards come in a variety of designs, graphics, and color schemes. Choosing a board that resonates with your personal taste will make every skateboarding session more enjoyable.

Frequently Asked Questions Cruiser Longboard

Q: How do I choose a longboard cruiser?

A: Acruiser deck is typically 7 to 10 inches wide for stability. Note that the wider the deck, the more stable it is when going fast. Usually, cruisers are 25" to 32" inches long. However, the width of the deck generally has a greater impact on the feel and stability of the board overall.

Q: Is there a huge difference between a cruiser and a longboard?

A: The deck size of cruisers is typically shorter, making them agile for city navigation. Longboards are larger, offering stability at higher speeds. Shapes vary too - cruisers often mimic surfboard designs while longboards offer a variety like pintail or symmetrical cutouts.

Q: How do you stop a cruiser longboard?

A: Drop Foot. The most accessible way to brake is to put your back foot on the ground and press it down to slow your longboard. This is an effective way to reduce your speed and/or stop completely. The Drop Foot is a simple way to manage your speed.

Q: What is the difference between cruiser and longboard wheels?

A: The first difference is the size. They are bigger for a smoother, stable ride. Secondly, they are softer for better grip on rougher and less even road surfaces.

Q: Is a cruiser easier than a longboard?

A: Just like longboards, cruiser boards aren't designed for doing tricks at the skatepark like a traditional skateboard. They're best enjoyed on city streets and flat roads. Because of their smaller size, cruiser boards are a bit harder for beginners to use.

Q: What is a cruising longboard?

A: It is a form of transportation and it is gentle and relaxed. There will be no hills or mountains involved. Most cruising longboards you will see on the streets are between 32"-42" long. These are the perfect choice for moving.

Q: How hard should cruiser wheels be?

A: Softer wheels, on the other hand, are better suited for cruising, transportation, and longboarding, as they offer a smoother ride and better grip. Medium durometer wheels, which fall in the 90a to 98a range, are a good choice for beginners and for street skating on rough surfaces.

Q: Are cruisers good for beginners?

A: Cruiser motorcycles are suitable for beginners because of their low seat height, relaxed riding position, and generally mild-mannered V-Twin engine.

Q: Can you carve on a cruiser?

A: Being shorter than longboards they are snappier, easier to hit quick carves and generally a little more convenient. Some cruiser decks come with a surf-inspired shape, featuring a pointed nose and swallowtail. Not only do these boards look awesome but they are also perfect for laid back cruising and flowy carves.

Q: Can you slide on a cruiser?

A: The Dinghy can do all the slides that a DH/Freeride longboard can do, and all the tricks that a generic skateboard can do. It's a little bit different than riding a longboard or a generic street skate, but Reese tells us everything we need to know in the "Slides & Tricks on a Dinghy/Cruiser Board" video.

Q: Why do people like cruisers?

A: Cruisers are built in a way where the rider has a more laid-back seating position. Typically, you would see a cruiser rider sitting upright or leaning back, making them comfortable over long rides.

Q: Are cruisers easy to learn?

A: There are several reasons cruiser skateboards are great for beginners. Cruiser boards come with big, soft wheels. The benefit of this is that your board will roll super smooth and the added weight means it won't quickly zip out from underneath you when learning to stand on your board.

Q: What is cruising longboard?

A: In general, a Longboard will be over 36 inches and a Cruiser Board will be under 36 inches. Longboards usually come without a kicktail & Cruisers normally include a tail. Both have a unique set of strengths and weaknesses, and what matters is how you use them to your advantage to make your day as fun as possible.

Q: What is the difference between a drop through and a cruiser longboard?

A: The big difference: Pintail decks are mounted on TOP of the trucks. They are great for cruising and carving and for most ride styles that keep you under 25 mph, while Drop Throughs have the trucks mounted through the deck. They are great for faster speed riding, downhill, and some long distance riding.

Q: What is the difference between a cruiser and a pintail longboard?

A: Unlike pintail and twin tip longboards, cruiser longboards feature a full deck, more akin to that found on a traditional street skateboard. Cruiser longboards like Zed 44" Longboard are great for beginner longboarders since they offer maximum deck space for your feet.

Q: Can you do tricks on a cruiser longboard?

A: Many cruiser boards have a kicktail, which is the part that curves up at the end on the back. That isn't always the case, though, and cruisers aren't specialized for doing tricks like skateboards are.

Q: Can you use longboard wheels on a cruiser?

A: Sure, you can put longboard wheels on a skateboard, but you have to be aware of wheel bite. Though the "best" wheels are arguable, here is what makes a good cruiser wheel: Small - Avoids wheelbite. Soft durometer - rolls over terrain smoother.

Q: What is the easiest type of longboard to learn?

A: Drop-through longboards are functionally the best for beginners. They are super-low to the ground, which makes them easy to push, footbrake and slide. Drop-through longboards are a great place to start longboarding, as they make it easy to learn all the basics of longboarding.

Q: What is a cruiser board?

A: Acruiser board is the best type of skateboard to use for cruising short distances. Longer than a standard skateboard but shorter than a longboard, cruiser boards are easily maneuverable mid-length boards designed for cruising streets.

Q: Can cruisers go downhill?

A: Many cruiser boards have a kicktail, which is the part that curves up at the end on the back. That isn't always the case, though, and cruisers aren't specialized for doing tricks like skateboards are. They're also not designed for going fast or downhill.
