Wooden Balance Board Production Process

Support and Wobble Pieces

Cut three 12-inch long pieces of 2"x4".

Mark Curved Pieces

Using a 5-gallon bucket, mark a curve on two of the 2"x4" pieces all the way up to the edge.
Cut Curved Pieces

Cut the two curved pieces with a jigsaw or bandsaw.
Cut Center Support and Deck

Rip a quarter inch off the remaining 2"x4" piece. The larger piece will be the center support and needs to fit enough under the curved pieces to not interfere with the wobble.
Cut an 18"x18" piece of 1/2 inch plywood. I'm using Birch plywood, but any nice, smooth, and strong piece will do. Your local hardware/home/lumber store often carries them in 2'x2' sections.
Sand Curved Pieces Smooth

Clamp together the curved pieces evenly and sand them until they are equally smooth. A belt sander with a medium or rough grit works well. There's no need to spend a whole lot of time and go to a very fine grit. As long as it's even and smooth, it's good enough.

Carefully align the support piece to the center and screw it in tight against the deck through the pilot holes from the top of the deck.
Align and Screw in Curved Pieces

Align the curved pieces evenly to the edges of the deck and screw them to the middle of the center support piece.
Screw in Curved Pieces From the Top

Mark 2 dots and drill pilot holes at 2 1/4 inches from the edge. Go 1 1/2 inches to either side of the 9-inch center (7 1/2 inches from either opposite side). Do the same for the curved piece on the other side.
This distance will put the screw in the middle of the curved piece underneath and not make the 2 1/2 inch screw protrude through the curve.

What You Should Keep In Mind When Training With The Balance Board

Some Other Things to Know Before Using Balance Boards

1. Protecting Your Stuff from Your Balance Board

Balance boards are best used in an area where a flying board cannot damage surrounding items. Balance boards with or without stoppers on the bottom can shoot out from under you and be launched into the air with such high velocity that they can easily damage walls, smash through windows, ruin TVs, break fine china, or even knock out a spectator's teeth.

2. Protecting Your Balance Boards

Also, keep in mind that most wooden balance boards should not be used on rough terrain because it will put more wear and tear on them. Most balance boards are recommended for use on a smooth, hard surface or carpet. If using the board outside, sweep the area of rocks, glass, or any other items that may damage the board.

3. Protecting Your Floors from Balance Boards

Balance boards should not be used on wood floors or any other type of indoor flooring that can easily be damaged. Even when using a balance board correctly, there will be times when the balance board slams into the ground, potentially causing damage to the flooring. Use a piece of old carpet, an area rug, or a chair mat while training on your balance board to help prevent damage to both the flooring and the balance board.

4. Protecting Your Neighbors' Quality of Life

The banging sound a balance board makes when slamming into the floor may be annoying to people directly below you, possibly leading them to show their frustration by banging on the ceiling (this may or may not be from personal experience). Some balance boards can be loud when in use; try using the board on a carpet to help reduce the noise if this is an issue for you.
