Benefits of Cruiser Surfskate

01

Low requirements for site

The fun of traditional skateboarding lies in park tricks, pole climbing, flying platforms, and various flying movements. Land surfboarding does not have high requirements for the venue. As long as there is a flat open space, you can practice. If you are advanced, you can also go to the bowl pool.

02

Ease of entry

Traditional skateboarding is more demanding on the body, and it is easy to get injured when doing some moves. Even if you don't do tricks, you can quickly enjoy the fun of gliding on a land surfboard. It is relatively stable and easy to master. Most people can already start gliding in 1-2 hours.

Popularity

Unlike skateboarding, which has a long history of development in China and the high level of attention that comes with being included in the Tokyo Olympics, land surfing is still a veritable niche sport in China.

Common Materials of Cruiser Surfskate

Foam polyurethane

Foam polyurethane is one of the most widely used materials at present. Its advantages are lightness, easy processing, and low price. The disadvantage of polyurethane foam is that it is relatively fragile and prone to surface defects such as dents during use. Therefore, this material is suitable for beginners or intermediate surfers.

Epoxy resin

Epoxy is another very common surfboard material. Compared to polyurethane foam, epoxy resin is stronger and has a flatter surface. The disadvantages of epoxy are that it is slightly more expensive and more difficult to process, requiring accurate measurements and careful modeling. This material is suitable for experienced and advanced surfers.

Carbon fiber

Carbon fiber is a relatively new surfboard material. Its advantages are lightness, strength, and durability. Carbon fiber on the surface can also improve the rigidity and elasticity of the surfboard. Of course, the disadvantages of carbon fiber are also obvious, such as higher price and difficulty in processing. This material is suitable for professional level surfers.

Choosing the Right Type of Cruiser Skateboard

Cruisers, just like longboards or skateboards, can have a lot of sub-categories, often overlapping with each other. Assuming you know that you want some kind of cruiser board, here's a primer for types and terms you'll see in stores:

Mini Cruisers

Awesome for younger kids and still great for those who want a small, light board.

Cruiser

Generally comfortable for kids and adults of all sizes. The price usually ranges from $50 to $80.

Land Cruising Skateboard

Pennyboards

Small, low-cost plastic mini cruiser or cruiser. Good turning and a narrow deck, so good for kids. Prices range depending on brand, but they're often $30 and up.

Surfskate

Also called a carve, this is a special design that lets the board tilt, like surfing. They're their own thing, popular with surfers, but they still work for cruising. There are surfskate longboards, cruisers, and skateboards, each with varying prices.dustr

Maintenance Tips for Cruiser Skateboard

Adjust the wheels: The wheels shouldn´t be dancing around too much, but they shouldn´t be too tight. So tighten the screws without using force, and once they´re fixed just loosen it a tiny bit.

Adjust the screw that holds the pivot bolt: Important! If the pivot bolt isn´t well screwed, your axis can break if it receives a strong impact. You can do it by supporting yourself on it. Do this until it doesn´t go down anymore. If you feel it go down then screw the pivot bolt.

Make sure the screws join the axes to the deck: With the vibrations it can loosen up the screws. Something that will make your deck suffer more than it should and will end up cracking it. So we recommend you tighten them all equally.

Check the bearings: With time, the saltpeter, the humidity, or the sand will make our surfskate roll wrong. To prevent this or maintain the skate we recommend that every now and then you dismount and clean the bearings. This way, almost without noticing, you are giving your surfskate a longer life.

Clean it with oil: Our last tip is for those that live near the sea, clean it with oil once in a while, dismount the bearings and make sure everything is well oiled. Salty water isn´t forgiving.

FAQS

Q: What is a surfskate skateboard?

A: Surfskate decks are directional decks – so there is always a front and a back and you ride them in one direction – just like a surfboard. Most surfskates have a conventional skateboard or longboard truck at the tail of the board and a special surfskate truck at the nose of the board. Compared to regular skateboard trucks the axle of a surf skate truck does not only pivot but can also turn. Most surfskate brands have built-in springs in their trucks that make the axle bounce back to the center.

Q: What kind of wheels should i get for skateboarding?

A: The size and hardness of your wheels will depend on the type of skateboarding you're doing. Most street skaters prefer harder, smaller wheels (54-59mm) as they provide more control for tricks. If you're mainly cruising or going downhill, larger softer wheels (60-70mm) are optimal since they provide more grip and cushioning from any bumps in the road. Remember to also check the durometer rating of your new wheels-the higher the number, the harder the wheel. Generally speaking, a lower durometer provides more traction and is better for cruising while a higher number gives you more speed but less grip. It's all about finding the perfect balance between grip and speed for your riding style.

Q: How do I choose my surfskate size?

A: Overall the length of the board makes less of a difference, a wider deck however will put more leverage on the front truck leading to a more sensitive ride. A wider deck will also lock your feet and secure your stance. In comparison to a low concave a deep concave will further more secure your stance. If e.g. you are looking for a deck that works best in a pool or bowl we would suggest to go for something wide with a deep concave to feel as secure as possible. If you are looking for a surfskate as a cruiser or if you are a beginner a low concave is absolutely fine as a start.

Q: How often should I replace my surfeboard?

A: Surfboards take a lot of wear and tear and it is important to keep track of the condition of your board. You may want to consider replacing your board if you start to notice cracks in the deck or wheels that are worn out. It is also recommended to inspect your board before every surf, even if it looks fine, as this will help ensure your safety while surfing. Surfskate can be an expensive hobby so make sure you do research on what type of board would best suit your needs before making a purchase.

Q: What are some of the benefits of cruiser surfskate?

A: Crusier surfskate is a great way to stay physically fit, build strength and coordination, increase balance, and improve overall cardiovascular health. It is also an excellent way to make friends and be part of a creative community.

Q: What is the difference between a surfskate, skateboard, and longboard?

A: The main difference is the construction and functionality of the front truck and the fact that there is actually a different truck in the front and back. Surfskates are directional boards, meaning that they are ridden in one direction and that they have a nose and tail.

The front truck has an axle that does not only pivot and lean but that can be turned, allowing the rider to perform maneuvers as if he would be surfing a surfboard. Many surfers is using surf skates to train and improve their surfing on land. A surf skate can also be pushed and pumped, meaning that you can build speed standing with both feet on the board. It is not possible to mimic surfing maneuvers on a normal skateboard or longboard, also you cannot pump conventional boards.

Surfskates are also great skateboards for cruising. The soft and large wheels are made to do grippy carves and to run smooth in uneven terrain. While you can generate speed pumping the board it is also possible to push a surfskate like a conventional skateboard – all it takes is a little practice. Surfskates are great cruisers.

If you are into long distance or downhill skateboarding we would recommend to get a longboard – of course you can skate downhill on a surfskate but you would do carves rather than going straight.

Q: What is the best wheelbase for a surfskate?

A: One of the most discussed features of a surfskate is the wheelbase. The wheelsbase is measured between the inside holes of the front and back truck. As a rule of thumb for beginners a good wheelbase can be calculated like this: take a stance like you would on a surfboard by spreading your feet a little wider than your shoulders.

A long wheelbase offers a more stable ride and wide turns, slower acceleration but higher top speed, resulting in a maneuverability which is similar to a longboard. A longer wheelbase is in most cases easier to ride as a cruiser. You can cruise a surfskate with a short wheelbase but it will need a little more skill and experience. While a long wheelbase might be desirable when you are looking for that extra stability of a longboard type of ride, a way too short a wheelbase may result in a very sensitive and unstable board.

Q: Can I practice surfing on land with a cruiser skateboard?

A: Yes, a cruiser skateboard is a great option to practice surfing on land. It is designed to simulate the feeling of surfing and allows you to work on your surfing motions on flat surfaces.

Q: Can I use a surf skateboard for regular skateboarding?

A: While surf skateboards are designed for surf-like maneuvers, many models are versatile enough to be used for regular skateboarding, especially for cruising and carving.

Q: Is surf skateboarding easier than surfing?

A: Surf skateboarding and surfing require different skills and balance. Some may find surf skateboarding easier to start with, as it doesn't require waves and can be practiced more frequently.
